An Introduction
‘Santulan‘ is a gender equality and women empowerment program of Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan.
DJJS Gender Equality program, aims at creating a balance, which is a mandatory aspect of every human endeavor. The absence of this balance not only leads to disturbed health and productivity of an individual but also degrades the value-system of the society, at large. Being a human right and a part of MDGs, it becomes all the more imperative for every woman to seek and enjoy — Gender Equality.
Gender differential mindsets result in gender discrimination and injustice. This, in turn breeds a diseased society. Thus, DJJS identifies its cause at the root — the mind — where the thoughts cultivate and culminate. The organisation is dealing with the issue not only through its social initiatives but also through its spiritual tools. Such tools help build a gender-just society, devoid of cultural or religious myths that favor gender inequality.
Advocating value based grooming is the prime mandate of the program. It eliminates all kinds of gender biased quotients from human mind and hence human actions.
APPROACH:
The gender discrepancy is evident across the demographic and psychographic boundaries of the globe. Merely, manifesting Gender Equality as a human right doesn’t solve the ever existing social pandemic. The social renovation needs to be harnessed not only at the political level but also at the level of individuals.
The gross manifestation of gender based inequality is evident in terms of nutrition, health-care, education, mobility and other life opportunities. This results in higher vulnerability and susceptibility of women. The objectification and subordination of women by men has given way to worst forms of gender abuses like rapes, sexual assaults, overgrowing demands for dowry and inhumane practices like female feticide.
Owing to their role and structural positioning in a family, women form a crucial entity of the society. Their position in the society has been identified as beyond mere agents of propagation of human race, they are recognized as societal managers responsible for ensuring balance and progressive development of the society. Hence, women empowerment is a pre- requisite to achieve sustainable development.
DJJS’s work in this field is underlined by the approach of “disinfection at the root”. We identify that the root cause of ingrained Gender Inequality lies in diseased human-mindsets. Therefore, the GEP, DJJS uses its unique approach of ‘Value Based Grooming’ to ensure mental and social transformation in Gender Perspective at the grass root level.
DJJS uses its social tools as well to construct gender just ideal lifestyle values among individuals and their peer group. The ‘Grooming’ approach is effective in Sensitizing Masses, Advocacy as well as Capacity Building of Women. This involves propagation of righteous values and cracking of age old beliefs that justify subordinate status of women.
